  • HealthDiary ePRO System for COPD Patients Utilizing EXACT-PRO to Predict Exacerbations

    By on August 17, 2014

We have recently utilized a patient diary for COPD exacerbation monitoring in collaboration with AstraZeneca. The patient diary or electronic Patient Reported Outcome (ePRO) solution utilized the EXAcerbations of Chronic pulmonary disease Tool (EXACT) to detect COPD exacerbations. The patient diary was delivered to a smartphone device daily for the patient to complete.

Smartphone data collection proved to be an efficient method for collecting patient diary data directly from patients, which is demonstrated by high diary compliance of 95.4%. This combats the common misconception that older populations are not tech savvy and have trouble complying to electronic diaries, since the patients in this trial ranged from 48 to 88 years of age. Furthermore, an algorithm was setup to detect symptom progression toward exacerbation and automatically raise a flag and notify the physician to follow up with the patient. Detailed information can be found in the following article:

A randomised controlled trial of the effect of automated interactive calling combined with a health risk forecast on frequency and severity of exacerbations of COPD assessed clinically and using EXACT PRO

  • At Home / Chez Soi Study in The Globe and Mail!

    By on July 24, 2014

We are pleased to share exciting information about the At Home / Chez Soi Study where we had the privilege to provide data management and data collection tools.

HealthDiary provided an end-to-end study management system to manage participants as well as study visits and tasks in the cloud. System accessibility from anywhere allowed research staff to meet with the homeless participants anywhere, anytime and complete the interviews designed for data collection through HealthDiary’s secure portal.

Timely data compilation in this large Canadian study expedited the publication process, and impacted society and the way we approach homelessness and mental illness. As published in The Globe and Mail, the study is well-known as largest of its kind in the world, conducted across 5 cities in Canada, including Vancouver, Toronto, Winnipeg, Moncton and Montreal.
